The Future of Body Worn Cameras

The past 10 years have been filled with selfies, in the moment video recording, and staying up to date with news and events no matter where you are. This “always in the know” aspect of technology has caught up to body worn cameras. Smartphone Based Body Worn Camera can track the location of the officer and the vehicle via real time GPS. The phones can attach to the officers uniform just as a traditional body worn camera would, however there are a multitude of other perks to these body worn camera phones. These perks include heat maps that can show the presence of officers in any date range selected, tracks time and speed, as well as when and how long an officer spends in an area. This allows for increased transparency within departments, and encourages community policing.

Other perks include immediate upload to the cloud, which allows for supervisors to immediately review footage. If an altercation needs to be viewed in real time this is possible through live streaming. Should an officer find themselves in a situation where there isn’t time to hit the record button, there are several auto triggers for the camera which include speeding, injury, or a weapon being drawn.

Given the current climate of the world, this is the future of policing.
