The Florida Department of Law Enforcement promotes public safety and strengthens domestic security by providing services in partnership with local, state, and federal criminal justice agencies to prevent, investigate, and solve crimes while protecting Florida's citizens and visitors.
FDLE is composed of five programs: Executive Direction and Business Support, Criminal Investigations and Forensic Science, Criminal Justice Information, Criminal Justice Professionalism, and the Florida Capitol Police. In addition, the Department formally coordinates eight boards, councils, and commissions. FDLE
FDLE is headed by a Commissioner (Executive Director) who reports to the Florida Cabinet, which is comprised of the Governor, the Attorney General, the Chief Financial Officer and the Commissioner of Agriculture. The Commissioner is appointed to his position by the Governor and Cabinet and confirmed by the Florida Senate.
FDLE employs about 2,000 members statewide.
