Motorola’s Project 25 APXTM Multi-band Two-Way Radios Deliver Interoperability on Demand
The FINANCIAL -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) on August 4 announced the industry's first Project 25 (P25) multi-band subscriber family, APXTM portable and mobile radios- enabling instant multi-agency interoperability for mission critical first responders.

Designed specifically for first responders by applying the science of High Velocity Human Factors (HVHF), the dual-sided portable radio has both an audio and data side providing optimal functionality and loud and clear audio in a compact rugged form factor, which amplifies public safety officials' ability to keep their communities safer than ever before.

Part of Motorola's MOTOA4TM portfolio, APX is the first multi-band radio to meet and exceed public safety specifications for mission critical communications and is 15 percent smaller and 50 percent louder than existing Motorola P25 radios. A custom-designed microphone on both the audio and data sides independently suppress most background noise, detects male and female voices and uses a digital vocoder to process and enhance the remaining speech after it is filtered from harsh background noise.

Interoperability on Demand

To protect the communities they serve, public safety officials' success relies on their ability to communicate across federal, state and local boundaries. Instead of requiring two radios to communicate in different agencies' respective frequencies, APX's multi-band capability allows first responders the freedom to seamlessly connect between multiple frequencies for better communications with agencies, improved mobility, officer safety and response time. APX will enable first responders to be better prepared for emergencies as it's designed to be second nature to them.

Mission Critical Form Factor

Designed with input from public safety officials, social sciences, and on-site testing under severe physical conditions, the APX radio is rich with applications including integrated GPS, text messaging, intelligent lighting and user controlled radio profiles. The APX portable's slip-free T-Grip form factor with raised slanted knobs and buttons is made especially for gloved hands.

Future Ready Investment

APX two-way radios are backward and forward compatible working on both Motorola's FDMA and TDMA radio systems, which is a testament to Motorola's commitment to P25 Phase 2 and interoperability for first responders. When available, TDMA systems will double the voice capacity.

APX radios will also support future applications including Bluetooth as they become available. Read More

New Wireless 9-1-1 Location Accuracy Testing Tool Designed to Help PSAPs Validate Wireless Caller Location Accuracy
WOODBRIDGE, N.J., Jul 16, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- RCC Consultants, Inc. introduced ComSite9-1-1e(TM) to benefit the Nation's 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Points by providing them the means to independently test and verify the accuracy of wireless 9-1-1 caller location information delivered to 9-1-1 centers by wireless service providers. When the location information of a wireless 9-1-1 caller is not available or reported to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) inaccurately, the response of emergency services can be delayed with dire consequences. RCC Consultants developed a wireless 9-1-1 location accuracy testing solution, called ComSite9-1-1e(TM), specifically to help the Nation's PSAPs assess the accuracy of location information that is delivered to their PSAP by any wireless carrier. The testing methodology used by ComSite9-1-1e(TM) is based on nationally recognized standards published by the Federal Communications Commission. ComSite9-1-1e meets the needs of PSAPs that want to perform periodic checks on the location accuracy of wireless 9-1-1 calls.

ComSite9-1-1e(TM) provides the ability to perform ad-hoc testing in defined target areas or across the entire service area, inside buildings, and over water. Testing can be performed for only one wireless service provider or for multiple wireless service providers. ComSite9-1-1e(TM) can also verify the accuracy of wireless calls made on Next Generation 9-1-1 systems. ComSite9-1-1e(TM) is fully upgradable to RCC's ComSite9-1-1(TM) location accuracy testing system as local requirements change. ComSite9-1-1e(TM) will be officially unveiled at the Associated Public Safety Communications Official - International 74th Annual Conference and Expo, August 3-7, 2008, in Kansas City, MO, booth number 830. Sagem Morpho Wins Biometric Identification Technology Award

Monday, June 02, 2008. TACOMA, WA-Sagem Morpho Inc., a leading developer of biometric solutions, received the "Best Biometric Identification Technology" award for its MorphoFace Investigate (MFI) system, which was demonstrated recently at the 2008 Global Border Security Conference and Expo in Austin, TX.

Sagem's MFI is a robust and scalable facial recognition application including case evidence management, biometric matching and forensic evaluation tools for investigative and crime solving tasks. MFI provides law enforcement and intelligence analysts with the tools required to identify individuals found in large databases of images, such as mugshot, driver's license, or terrorist watch lists, using a wide array of visual evidence types as source material.

Sagem Morpho conducted a live demonstration of MFI at the Global Border Security Conference to showcase capabilities in immigration, investigative and forensic applications. Sagem Morpho also showed how MFI provides a flexible foundation upon which other matching services can be built, including mobile devices for use by police, customs and intelligence officers working in the field. This demonstration included enabling photos to be submitted for matching via any web browser or even via a cell phone camera using a standard Windows Mobile platform.

The underlying technology and facial algorithms incorporated in the Sagem Morpho MFI application are the basis of an automated border control system known as SmartGate now being used by the Australian Customs Service at four airports. SmartGate enables Australian citizens to self-process through Immigration via an intelligent biometric border control gate. It uses secure ePassport data to verify a traveler's identity by matching their face captured onsite to the facial biometric data stored on the passport. Read More
